The meaning behind trio wedding rings

The meaning behind trio wedding rings

A growing trend in the bridal fashion and jewelry industry is the trio wedding ring style. This three-ring design is typically composed with the engagement ring situated between the women's wedding band (closest to the heart) and a third band on the opposite side. Many couples view the engagement ring as the symbol to make a lifelong commitment to each other and the wedding band as a marker of unity. So what exactly does that third band stand for?

There are typically two meanings behind the third band that makes up the trio design. Some gentleman will purchase a third band to present to their wife on their one-year anniversary to symbolize the couple's eternal love. Another popular occasion in which a third band is presented to the wife is after the birth of a couple's first child - a trend we now refer to as a "push present."

Anniversary bands

If you're thinking about your first, 10th or 50th wedding anniversary gift for her, an anniversary band to complete the trio look is a definite do! Although traditional wedding etiquette states that the first year anniversary gift is supposed to be a paper product, experts from The Nest also note that gold is also an acceptable first year anniversary gift. This particular metal is precious and pure, which is why it's used to symbolize the first year of marriage.

When shopping for a women's anniversary band to complete the trio look, make sure the custom ring design will fit flush against the engagement ring. A curved ring, such as the Peggy Curved eternity band, is a perfect example of this particular style. The Peggy Curved Band is available in 18k yellow, white or rose gold, perfect for a first anniversary present.

Depending on the style of your wife's engagement ring, you may be able to choose from a wider selection of diamond bands. A solitaire design, for example, is much easier to pair up with a diamond eternity band such as the Dream Full Eternity design. This particular custom piece is composed of 24 diamond melee, measuring in at approximately 1.2 ctw. Customers have the option to select from 18k yellow, white or rose gold settings (as well as platinum).

Push present

If you and your betrothed are welcoming your first child into the world, a push present may be the perfect time to present your wife with a band to complete the trio design. Search for a design to match her engagement ring if you think she would prefer a flush look. For a unique take on the trio ring trend, you could also present her with a colored band as well.

If you end up with a little girl, consider the Marquise and Round Band design for your push present. The alternating eternity band features medium pink sapphires situated in between marquise cut diamonds. The splash of color not only reflects the sex of your new baby, but the alternating diamonds will also complement, rather than compete with, her engagement ring and wedding band.

Use the same approach - with a different color and design of course - for a boy! A Sapphire and Diamond Bezel eternity ring is a great style you can use to celebrate the birth of your son! The dainty eternity band includes 29 stones, with the diamonds and blue sapphires alternating around the entirety of the ring. Every time she looks down at her unique, trio ring set, she'll think of the three most important events in her life!
