Nicole's 2.50 F VVS2 Custom Oval Halo Diamond Engagement Ring

2.50 F VVS2 Oval Brilliant Cut Diamond Engagement Ring Kris and Nicole's love story is one for the books! We recently checked in with them after their April wedding. Read what they had to say below about the diamond buying process, the proposal and learn a little more about how they met!

First, things first, let's talk diamonds! Tell us more about the 2.50 F VVS2 Oval Brilliant Cut Diamond Custom Platinum Halo Ring that Kris designed for Nicole.

It was amazing. And it still is amazing! I couldn't believe Kris did this for me. I had shown him things I liked, and we were never on the same page about anything. But the ring he designed with Brian is absolutely perfect. Now that we've added the band, it is incredibly unique, and I will treasure it forever.

We love hearing that! Did anything, in particular, stand out for Kris during the ring buying process?

Kris says his favorite part was how extremely responsive the Brian Gavin team was. Emily was great the whole time. I personally loved getting to design our wedding bands with Brian in person since he is in Houston. It was awesome to see the 3D molding of my band before y'all created it.

Working closely with couples to help them design the perfect ring is one of our favorite parts of the process too! We would love to hear more about how the two of you met.

"Our journey began a couple of years ago…I had been living in Fredericksburg and made a crazy decision to move to Houston and start doing commercial pipe, valve and fitting sales for a company called Ferguson. Kris made a similar decision and sold his house in Tulsa for a new opportunity in Houston with a company called Polk Mechanical to be their Senior Estimator.

He was so busy there, he decided to hire an assistant estimator for himself – a recent college grad with no construction experience – and conveniently my cousin, Chris. Fate came into play one night when my cousin hosted a house warming party at his new home in Cypress. I noticed a tall, dark, and handsome man walk in wearing a Polk shirt – had to be my cousins boss.

After a few drinks and a little small talk, we parted ways…AKA he liked me so much he could barely talk to me, so he left. Little did I know, he had previously seen photos of me and knew he wanted to take me out on a date. We had a few work encounters, but I never expected anything to happen. Kris somehow got my cell phone number and invited me to go to the Houston Rodeo BBQ cook-off with him. We went to the rodeo and went out several more times after, and the sparks flew. We've been inseparable ever since!

We know not all things go as planned, but how did Kris plan to pop the question?

He planned on proposing on the beach, and he did it! We had traveled to Costa Rica a few months beforehand, and everyone thought it was going to happen there. I was clueless any of this was even going on – I had just signed a year lease in January and didn't think Kris was even ready to take the next step. Little did I know he had bought the diamond for the ring two months before and had a master plan.

And now, how did the day of the proposal go?

We arrived in St. Croix and Kris was extremely stressed out the house we were staying in didn't have a safe in the room. I eventually convinced him to "put our passports under the bed" not realizing what he was REALLY wanting a safe for. It was our first night in St. Croix, and we went out with the couples we were on the trip with. One drink lead to two and then several more, and I had the bright idea to do a sunrise walk on the beach with the group of girls. The next morning Kris' alarm went off at 5ish AM, and I was NOT feeling it. The hangover was very apparent… Kris begged and pleaded for me to get out of bed to go on this walk and finally, I did. He left the room all dressed and ready wearing golf shorts and came in a few minutes later saying he had to change into cargo shorts. I began to tell him how dumb it was that he wouldn't just put on a swimsuit like me… I didn't realize he had a big box he was trying to hide! We went outside, and no one was ready to go on the beach, so we went by ourselves. It was cloudy, and there was no sunrise… we walked and talked… and eventually I said some comment along the lines of "One day I'm going to trick you into marrying me" and low and behold he stopped and was down on one ring, tears coming out of his eyes, and could barely spit out "Will You Marry Me?". I was so taken back all I could say is "RIGHT HERE?! RIGHT NOW?! ARE YOU FOR REAL?!". Then I, of course, said yes and Kris said there were so many more things he wanted to say in the moment, but I cued it so perfect he didn't get to say anything he wanted.

What a beautiful proposal, thank you for sharing with us!

After the proposal, Kris and Nicole reached back out to us for a custom wedding band. Together, they designed a Custom Full Eternity Band featuring a two-tone look that is 5mm Platinum and 2.5mm 18K Rose Gold with approximately 31 x 0.05 carat Brian Gavin Signature F/G VS Hearts and Arrows Diamond Melee. This band fit perfectly with Nicole's Custom Platinum Halo Solitaire Ring featuring approx. 0.76 ctw F/G VS Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows Diamond Melee, as you can see in the pictures below.

Thank you, Kris and Nicole, for choosing the Brian Gavin Diamond Team to be a part of your love story!
