Early Influences on Brian Gavin’s Artistic and Creative Talent…

Growing up in a family where my late mother Femma was a well known South African artist, and my father Ben was a jazz musician and renowned diamond cutter, I was exposed to an inordinate amount of visual and musical stimulation, not to mention the constant discussions about the current trends in the diamond market.

When I left South Africa in 1985 my late mother made sure to box up my old school reports, certificates and newspaper clippings. On sorting through some papers a couple of weeks ago, I found photographs and a newspaper clipping from 1962 showing my preschool 's visit to the Johannesburg Art Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa. They chose to feature me in the newspaper article identifying the theme of a painting. So many years have passed since that day, but that visit and so many after that helped to foster the creativity and eye for beauty that I share with my customers here at Brian Gavin Diamonds.
