What designer makes rose gold engagement rings?
The popularity of rose gold has increased substantially over the past few years, and quite a few prominent jewelry designers are using the rich and luxurious looking alternative to white and yellow gold in their designer collections.
Rose gold is nothing new, it is merely enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Rose gold was extremely popular during the 19th century in Russia, and for that reason is often referred to as Russian Gold.
Cartier Brought Russian Gold to America:
Cartier Jewelers is believed to have been the first jeweler to introduce Russian Gold or "Rose Gold" to America, when they introduced a trinity colored wedding band in the 1920's. The tri-colored band consisted of three bands, one made of rose gold, one made of yellow gold, and one made of white gold.
Today, many jewelry designers, including Brian Gavin, produce a wide variety of engagement rings, wedding bands, and other popular jewelry items in rose gold. We pride ourselves in being able to offer a broad selection of rose gold jewelry items, as well as offering custom design services that incorporate rose gold into our designs.
How 18k Rose Gold is Created:
Although Rose Gold is frequently referred to as "pink gold" here in the United States, it is actually not pink gold. Just like white gold, which is created by mixing yellow gold with different color metals, such as nickel, zinc and silver; rose gold is created by mixing yellow gold with copper and silver, to create the perfect shade of pink.
The purity of gold is represented using a Karat system, wherein the purity of gold is measured in parts per thousand. "Pure gold" is not actually 100% pure gold, but is actually 99.95% fine and is commonly referred to as 24 Karat Gold, which is usually expressed as 24K.
Because 24k pure gold is extremely soft and pliable, it is not suitable for setting stones because they are likely to fall out of the setting. Therefore additional alloys are mixed with the gold to create jewelry items which are more durable.
To make 18k rose gold, which has a gold content of 75%, we add 22.25 parts copper and 2.75 parts silver to achieve a rich and luxurious shade of pink.
The same concept can be used to make rose gold of other karat denominations, for instance 14k gold which has a gold content of 58% would contain a mixture which consisted of 58 parts yellow gold and the remaining parts being a mixture of copper and silver.
Gems which Compliment Rose Gold:
The rich and luxurious appearance of rose gold, makes it the perfect accompaniment to white diamonds of every color range, but a lot of our clients like to set diamonds which are which are warmer in color because it seems to embrace the warmer tones and enhance the beauty of the diamonds.
Rose gold also looks amazing when set with colored gems like pink topaz, amethyst, yellow citrine, blue topaz and more.
