Katherin Webb's diamond halo engagement ring from AJ McCarron

Katherine Webb’s Diamond Halo Engagement Ring

Halo style diamond engagement rings are all the rage, as demonstrated by their popularity among celebrities like Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron, who announced their engagement over the weekend, by sharing pictures of the ring on Katherine’s Twitter feed @_KatherineWebb, which clearly show a round brilliant cut diamond set in a square halo of round cut diamonds. Perhaps the fact that Katherine Webb is an up and coming celebrity, explains her willingness to post such a clear photograph of the design of her celebrity engagement ring, she is clearly excited about being engaged and wants the world to know it! Congratulations to Katherine and AJ McCarron!

I’ll be honest, when I first saw the engagement announcement of Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron in the celebrity gossip column of the online news site which I read, my first thought was “Who are these people?” because I’d never heard of them before… but my eyes were immediately drawn to the halo engagement ring because it is an extremely popular design, which we offer a variation of, in the form of the Brian Gavin Round Square Halo which we custom make to fit each specific diamond.

Designs Similar to Katherine Webb’s Halo Engagement Ring:

rings similar to katherine webbs diamond halo engagement ring With the rising popularity of halo style engagement rings, there are plenty of variations of the design available to appeal to every sense of style and preference. As you can plainly see by comparing the photographs for the two similar, but different ring styles, the Brian Gavin Round Square Halo has the same basic square outline, but offers a more delicate and tailored design, which we think looks quite elegant. The milgrain edge featured along the outer perimeter of the halo, not only provides some extra protection for the diamonds contained within the halo, it also adds a little bit of flair to the overall design of the ring.

Detecting the Subtle Differences in Halo Ring Designs:

While many of the halo style engagement rings might look similar at first glance, there are subtle differences which set them apart in terms of design structure, quality, and price… One of the most common questions that we receive about the rings which we produce is why they cost more than rings of similar concept which are offered by some of our competitors online, or why they cost more than similar designs might cost in a retail jewelry store; but the reality is that in practically every instance, the quality of the rings being compared is dramatically different, as is the total carat weight, the gram weight of the ring, and the overall production quality.

For instance, if you take a look at the photograph provided for Katherine Webb’s halo engagement ring provided above, and compare it to the photograph provided for the Brian Gavin Round Square Halo ring, you’ll be able to see that the width of the bands is different, and the ratio of the size of the accent diamonds to the center stone is different, as is the ratio of the amount of metal present in the ring to the edge of the diamonds… this is not to say that one ring is better or worse than the other, they are merely different in design, but similar in concept, and these minor differences affect the overall price of the finished ring.

One of the rings which we get asked about a lot, is a halo setting produced by a popular designer, which features French set diamonds, weighing about 0.45 carats total weight, which are H in color, and VS-2 in clarity, and prong set in a band which measures about 2 mm in width; the most common question is why the ring costs less than the Brian Gavin Round Square Halo, which customers frequently think of as being the same ring, perhaps because both feature a square halo outline, set around a round brilliant cut diamond.

However the gram weight of our ring is practically twice the weight of their ring, and the diamond weight is one fifth of a carat more, and we use F/G color, VS-2 clarity diamonds, which are cut to the same standards as Brian Gavin Signature round diamonds, so that the diamonds set in the ring will exhibit the same high volume of light return and sparkle as the center stone… and we finish and polish out our rings to a level of perfection that few jewelers take the time to achieve, they are entirely different rings, and thus the cost is not the same.
