How to add diamonds to an existing ring
"Can you tell me how to add a diamond to an existing ring? Is it even possible to add a diamond to an existing ring? I purchased a classic solitaire engagement ring from Brian Gavin a few years ago. My wife mentioned recently that she might like to add side stones to the ring. Is it even possible to add diamonds to an existing ring? And if so, how do you add diamonds to an existing ring? I think that my wife would like to set either round or pear shape accent diamonds on either side of the center stone. Is it any easier to set one shape diamond in an existing ring as opposed to another? What is the process? And obviously I’ll need to know how much this will cost.”
Adding diamonds to a solitaire engagement ring:
It will be more cost effective, and look much better, much, much better, if we simply scrap the existing solitaire, and move forward with a new three stone ring. The new three stone ring will be designed to accommodate three diamonds from the beginning, and it is going to have better flow in terms of the overall design. As opposed to looking like it was pieced together, in an attempt to create a three stone ring after the fact. I wouldn’t recommend converting your car into a convertible by simply cutting off the top, so I wouldn’t recommend adding diamonds to an existing ring in an attempt to convert a solitaire into a three stone ring.
3 Stone Ring Design Basics:
Take a look at the side profile of the Brian Gavin pear shape 3 stone ring pictured above. Notice how the profile of the setting is completely different than that of the classic solitaire which you purchased previously. The sides of the ring taper upward to provide support for the cage work, and create the best design lines for this style setting. Each diamond requires a seat designed for each specific shape, and all of this needs to blend together to create a design which flows from one section to the next. There is no way to add diamonds to an existing ring and create the same quality of design and workmanship. It is much better to scrap the old setting and start fresh.
What to do with your old engagement ring:
My guess is that you want to know the best way to add diamonds to an existing ring, because you paid for the original ring and want to retain some of the value. This desire is only natural. Because the original solitaire was purchased from Brian Gavin, we will accept the original setting at scrap value, and credit that amount towards the purchase of a new setting from Brian Gavin.
The value of scrap metal is less than the cost of a new ring, but it will not be a total loss either. More important than the slight difference in the cost of the metal, is the fact that the new three stone ring that we custom build to show-off your Brian Gavin Diamond, is going to look amazing!
