Best Engagement Ring for a Healthcare Professional

“My girlfriend works in the health care field, and actually told me that she didn’t want a diamond engagement ring because the prongs would tear up her gloves, but I really want to present her with a ring. One of her friends suggested that we consider a bezel set solitaire, and I notice that Brian Gavin offers several types of bezel set solitaire engagement rings, which one do you think is best for a person working in health care? Does a half bezel set solitaire offer the same degree of protection as a full bezel set solitaire? And will we still be able to read the inscription on the side of the diamond?

What is a bezel set solitaire engagement ring?

half-bezel-set-diamond-engagement-ring-brian-gavinA bezel set solitaire diamond engagement ring is one that holds the diamond in-place with a rim-like section of metal that is molded around the girdle edge of the diamond, instead of using prongs like a traditional six prong solitaire style engagement ring.

Bezel set solitaire style engagement rings are generally available with a full bezel, as pictured above, or with a half bezel, as pictured to the left. Both styles of bezel set diamond engagement rings happen to be quite secure in terms of holding the center stone in-place, it takes a great deal of effort to remove a diamond from a bezel set engagement ring. Thus the decision whether to buy a diamond solitaire that features a half or full bezel setting, is primarily a matter of personal preference. However I would think that a full bezel set diamond engagement ring is less likely to snag on gloves, etc.

Is it a good idea to wear your engagement ring to work?

Brian Gavin Diamonds has sold more than a quarter million diamond engagement rings over the years, and quite a few of those rings are worn by people working in the field of health care.

Many of our other clients are employed in fields where it is either not safe, or a good idea to wear their ring to work, but this does not mean that you can not enjoy wearing a diamond engagement ring, or a wedding band, when you are not at work.

Life is more than the work that we do, and thus the reality is that you and your girlfriend should select a style of engagement ring that appeals to her personal sense of style, and not necessarily the type of work that she does for a living. Many of our clients who work in healthcare, simply leave their rings at home when they go to work, or wear their ring on a sturdy link-style necklace while at work – this prevents them from accidentally losing their ring while working, or having to remember where they took it off.

We provided diamond insurance replacement services for a client several years ago, who lost her diamond engagement ring because she pinned it to a pair of scrubs while attending a surgery; she had removed the scrubs after surgery, tossed them down the laundry shoot at the hospital, and not thought about her ring until the next day, at which point it was too late, nobody found the missing ring.

Which brings up a good point, be sure to have your Brian Gavin diamond engagement ring appraised by an independent Gemologist, and purchase insurance for it!
